How Are Drugs Abused?

Drug abuse is a serious problem that can have devastating consequences. Drug abusers can become addicted to drugs in a variety of ways, and once they become addicted, they will likely abuse drugs in order to get their fix. Here are some of the most common ways that drugs are abused:

-Smoking marijuana: Marijuana is the most common way drugs are abused in the United States and many people use it for its psychoactive effects. Smokers who smoke marijuana regularly become addicted to the drug and may find it difficult to quit.

-Snorting cocaine: Cocaine is often snorted through the nose, which increases its risk of addiction and overdose. Snorting cocaine also increases the risk of developing other types of addiction, including crack cocaine addiction.

-Pouring alcohol into another person's beer or wine: This is often called "buddy drugging." It's easy to get someone else drunk enough to start taking drugs without them knowing it, and then they may end up becoming addicted to the drug themselves.

-Taking prescription medications without asking permission: Many people misuse prescription medications by taking them without asking permission from their doctor. This can lead to addiction and other health problems.

-Using steroids for nonmedical purposes: Steroids can be used for many legitimate purposes, but abusers often use them to increase their strength or muscle mass without taking the necessary precautions. This can lead to an addiction to steroids, which can be very difficult to overcome.

-Using illegal drugs: Some people abuse illegal drugs simply for the thrill of it. This can be dangerous and lead to addiction and other problems.
